Oriental Landscaping Creates a Unique Look

September 23, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Oriental landscaping produces a feeling of tranquility and serenity if done well.  Oriental landscaping usually refers to landscaping similar to the landscaping done in China and Japan, but there are other Oriental countries that show similar landscaping as well.  Thailand is another place with Oriental landscaping that has many similarities with those in Japan and China.

Oriental landscaping should never be crowded so the amount of space available is the first consideration when starting to use Oriental landscaping.  The basics of such landscaping require that there is nothing that is symmetrical.  The gardens of the Orient have beautiful mosses, bamboo and flowers that give them a unique, magnificent appearance.

Those experts trying to design a space using Oriental landscaping will not want to put anything in neat and tidy rows.  The garden in Oriental places is seen to be a place for contemplation and relaxation.  The space should inspire this mood of contemplation in all those that enter the garden.  The Oriental landscaping uses many evergreen trees and often azaleas.  Some designers insist on including azaleas in many Oriental gardens.  Oriental landscaping should engulf those that enter into an overwhelming landscape that makes the human beings in the garden seem to blend in with the surrounding nature.

Oriental Landscaping Includes Bubbling Waterfalls and Fish Ponds

Oriental landscaping often includes water when possible and fish ponds filled with orange and white fish.  There are kits available in the local home improvement stores that provide the materials and instructions to install these in the backyard.  These kits come in all sizes for installing a pond in many different areas.  These kits are priced reasonably and produce a fabulous effect.  They usually provide information on long term care, especially of the fish.

A bubbling brook or at least a waterfall can provide a charming look to a garden, but these devices can also add soothing sounds around the garden.  Rocks are often found in this landscaping, and an expert in landscaping will want to add as many of these as possible.  There are rocks that can be purchased locally in a home improvement store or other outlet.  This wonderful landscaping can have a waterfall flowing over carefully placed stones or boulders.  There are some pieces such as lanterns that can be placed in the garden to add to the Oriental feeling.  Even some traditional, Oriental waterfalls can be constructed easily by those that are not carpenters or architects.
